now the argument has gotten extremely technical, even to the point of questioning free will. So let me say this.. Everything is, in one way or another, a programmed response. At least, this is what the aim of science (as i see it) is: to find a pattern in everything, find what's common and not, to determine the algorithm of reality, or how things work. We see the actioins of "lower life forms" not as free will, but as instinct. We say they did this or that not out of choice, but because that's what they were programmed to do. Of course, these are fairly simple actions, and easy to predict, and we can even call certain simple actions of our own as "programmed". an example is reflex. when we get burned, we react faster than we can CHOOSE to react, which makes our response a programmed one (not out of our will). but any other human action is more complicated, and thus more difficult to find patterns from. and that's where social sciences usually come in.
